<<What do you hope to accomplish by keeping a serial killer alive?>>

you said <<Redemption>>

Redeemed to what extent and by who. The killer's sin is against his own soul. The killers victims are dead. The damage is done to society.

The killer may redeem his soul before God. You, I, and society have no say in it.
The killer can't be redeemed in this life by forgiveness of the dead. You and I have no business determining that he is forgiven for what he did to them.
The killer damages society by spreading fear and distrust which weakens the members of the society in their ability to commune with one another in peaceful coexistance. Society can be strengthened by any measure of assurance that such threats are removed and similar threats in the future will be lessened by this assurance.
The killer can convert to decensy. We have little or no confidence in the vows of such people. So whether or not they do have a change of heart does nothing for the society they have done damage to.
What could they possibly contribute that you think redeems them for the serial killings and in what way?
