With respect to much of the world, too much bandwidth, too many players, multiple layers of wireless, coax, fibre, mobile radio, satellite, PCS, cellular, and twisted pair. Too many pager systems, too many data networks, too many "backbones", etc. Even the equipment suppliers are starting to feel the pinch, especially as many Asian infrastructure projects have been canned (can't afford them now).

The various players are in the consolidation phase, which is needed. Competition has become rather stiff. Many players do not make profits (at all, or commensurate with the expenditures made to put the infrastructure in place).

My favourite is the satellite situation, especially Iridium. It is already apparent that it will not return its original investment, never mind make a profit. It may well take Motorola into insolvency.
