Now I feel backed into a corner. I risk offending you since I am not a Catholic or even a Christian. Yet I think you are requesting an honest response. I feel obligated to give that.

I do not believe any one stands between me and my God as a spokesperson. Although I have admiration for the high level of scholarship the Pope represents on religious matters, I have no problem searching my heart for agreement or disagreement on his views. I definitely do not agree with the concept of the clergy granting forgiveness of sins. I just heard a statistic today that reveals the group that ranks as the second highest number of perpetraters of child molestation in the US are the clergy. The highest number is parents, usually influenced by drug and alcohol intoxication. I can have no unguarded loyalty to such an institution.

I haven't heard the Pope's arguements on the death penalty so I really have no specific criticism of his arguement. I have only read yours, which you claim to be aligned with his. I wouldn't mind discussing it with him though.

That is a non-response. I sense frustration. Are you at the end of your wits on this subject? If so you might want to consider the validity of my views for a moment.
