Your son's letter is very disturbing!

However, your son is being a little wimpy in at least this one respect: He really does not have to stick with the contract with Ameritech! They are not filling their end of the contract since they are not providing him with quality service. Essentially, they exchanged a 2 year commitment IN EXCHANGE for service that they demonstrated to him in the showroom when he tried the phone. But in fact the service gives him waterfalls and heads-in-buckets sound quality!

If I were he I would certainly quit Ameritech and insist on paying no penalty at the minimum!

He should also insist on speaking to a manager while having this discussion. A reasonably likely response will be they will swap his phone for free, and if they don't, he can cut his losses.

By the way, SPRINT PCS has TWICE exchanged my QCP-1900 phone, the first time was impressive since my orignal purchase had been from Dow Electronics, but the PCS store swapped it, and the second time it was proably about 10 months past warranty! The second time they swapped it the only phone they would give me in exchange was a Samsung that I think they were discontinuing, but it sounds better than ameritech!

Good luck!
Mike
