Angel, the phones wholesale cost about $150 - $225. OMPT and PTEL and any other cell phone svc co pretty much give them way for free. How's that for a great bus model?

"What did it today was Motorola coming out in Germany today with a new phone with which you can surf the net."

Don't think so. These phones with microbrowsers for GSM are under development by Motorola and are not available anywhere yet. Exception is a Motorola version for Nextel (ESMR). Sagem also demonstrated a microbrowser GSM handset but it is available for European frequencies and not GSM 1900.

"This means that consumers can expect to see the first Internet browsing capabilities appearing on a Motorola GSM phone by the end of the year, and across our entire digital phone range in 2000," Motorola said in a statement.

Upside is that GSM technology will probably permit this technology before CDMA or TDMA (although that is not a given) and given Omnipoints commitment to wireless data they will probably be amongst the first to offer it in US.

Omnipoint currently has one of the widest offerings of mobile handsets (6 manufacturers) of any operator in US.
