Kash, Elmer - Re: " So it would be shocking if they didn't have 0.18 micron first samples of the PIII's by now."

My intuition tells me that IF Intel demoed a 0.18 micron device, it was a shrink on the Dixon - Pentium II + 256K L2 cache on chip.

It has already been reported that this chip, a "quick shrink" as Elmer referred to, has been sampled to notebook manufacturers.

Intel probably packaged a few "Dixon QS" devices into a Slot 1 package for the CeBIT Demo.

Kash and all AMD'ers got my new compaq notebook Presario 1675 sporting a AMd K-6-2 380 with 3Dnow. In fact my partner both one also. Plays DVD movies flawlessly over 14.1" TFT screens. Priced at $2,299.00 At Fry's. the compaq box beat out 2 sony Vioa notesbook boxes one with a Pentium ii 333 the other with Pentium ii 366 priced at $2,499 and $3,299. both Sony boxes failed to deliver fully motoin video from the DVD disk noticable herky jerky motion interruption made it an easy decision to go with the compaq/ AMD offering. We don't know if the difference was all related to the difference in the graphics accelerator cards. the AMd system had the Avi-rage with 8 mb of video ram while the Pentium systems choose meomagic with 2.4mb of video ram. We suspect part of the problem to be related to pentium's lack of 3D now instruction set. The frys' people were quick to point out the compaq featured the latest technology with a 64 bit processor running on a 100 mhz motherboard while the pentium was described as old technology 32 bit running at 66mhz. My partner and i ahve stated here before that video applications are some of the ost demanding a system can perform. the AMd chip handeled the job with flying colors. And we are happy campers with high bragging rights showing off our new machines. Thankyou AMd for the great value and Performance.
