Cisco has stated publicly that it is not interested in Ciena.

I have no idea whether Cisco is interested in Ciena; but it is traditional to lie baldly about such matters -- to swear on your mother's grave that you would never in a million years have any interest in any kind of deal with company X, right up to the moment when you announce you've acquired company X.

Didn't mean to imply anything was going on with CSCO.

In reality, **No One** has stated publicly they are interested in CIEN (except TLAB and we know all about that).

CSCO went to far as to place them outside the "favorable acquiree" box, but things change and that was during the TLABS debacle.

I think CIEN will be acquired, but there is so much speculation that isway off base. I just happen to think Chambers was commenting on CIEN at a point in time and that was before the 2 recent acquisitions. My point was that CSCO *should* expand into this market. Whether thru CIEN or not, who knows?

TLAB may be a more attractive partner than CIEN for CSCO.

Have you ever thought about how you would set up your negotiating position if you really wanted a valuable asset?
