H.Kirby....It appears that Eric uses "engineer speak" when speaking with analysts;straight, curt, minimum, verbiage. He then seems to take delightful glee when they misinterpret his reports and makes no attempt to rectify the analysts incorrect "spin". I think he enjoys yanking their chain.A few quarters back I remember him reporting how he got great amusement from making the analyst look stupid.
I also remember ,shortly after the USRX merger, Eric mentioned a five year time span on his tenure.
I continue to rationalize:
1.The merger was a necessity for USRX/Coms. USR gave COMS end to end capability
2.Digesting the merger was difficult however Eric's forsight was focused on "Convergence". He seemed to have coined this word as far as networking is concerned.
3. Moving towards convergence called for a total remake of product offerings and a new business plan.
4. He was smart enough to realize he couldn't point COMS into the future singlehanded and picked up Clafin.(very recent history)
5.Eric wants to make the "edge" intelligent.Hopefully this is COMS future.(new nics coming mid-year) from the edge he moves into Cisco's territory.
6. USRX brought COMs for the retail channel for SOHO .This is were the networking dollars are:
"The company(Cisco) expects that gross margins will continue to decrease in the future, because it believes that the market for lower-margin remote access and switching products for small and medium-sized businesses will continue to increase at a faster rate than the market for the company's higher-end products," the filing said.

Cisco has voiced these same concerns in prior quarterly filings. Additionally, Cisco said it faces increased competition from "large telecommunications equipment suppliers and well-funded startup companies."
7. "Well-funded startup companies"I believe is a reference to Juniper Networks. Juniper has kick-ass net products an is funded by COMS,ATT and others(visit their webb-site) They have a MP40 switch that CISCO would kill for.
8. I sure hope I don't have my head in the clouds but I remain bullish. I have to I've got too many shares!!
