Having followed TI and the dsp revolution for some time I offer the following. Ti has gone through a successful transition. For three years the comments on this board reflected the same sentiment that was spoken and written by TI owners and employees. They had a plan and lots of skeptics as does SSPI. Since then there price has skyrocketed as has the streets awareness of dsp. During that time there were many inside the company who were ready to jump ship and as recently as this past fall Brown Bothers Harriman had TI as a sell before it went from 40 to over 100, because their focus on dsp was too risky!

I spoke with the company and got the official interpretation on the Aidas applications

The Aida PMC Sharc module can be used in three different applications:

1. As a DSP co-processor for a RISC (POWER PC or Pentium) single boardcomputer (from Motorola, Force or SBS Technologies); The Aida would resideon the PMC site of the SBC and off load the RISC from heavy numerical tasks.
In this application the buyer would typically purchase in quantities of 10's(depending on the actual application and the success of the vendor'sproduct, of course).

2. As an inter-board communication interface module; In this application, the Aida provides a mechanism for any carrier with a PMC site to interface to other devices via the SHARC DSPs' link ports. This is exactly what someof our customers are currently doing. The quantities here are quite a bit higher - 100's.

3. As additional processing power for an existing SHARC DSP board; Addingan Aida to the Morocco board would increase the number of DSPs from 8 to 12 per VME slot. The quantities here will be low - 1's.

All of these product applications can be for a myriad of actual end
applications in the current market segments we play in today (Control,
SONAR, RADAR).
