Wise sharks watch for killer whales. The note I am responding to was mine from early this morning. It notes some interesting money flow data on indices. I tried to post a nice spreadsheet document in the fixed font mode but it did not work. So you will get a not so nice amount of data. Dollars are in millions and blocks are 10,000 shares. All data is from the WSJ.

On 3/18/99, when the INDU was up 118, the non-block INDU money flow was a positive 143.0 and the block was a negative 93.2. On the INX, the non-block was a positive 484.9 and the block was a negative 183.9.

On 3/19/99, when the INDU was down 93, non-block INDU money flow was a negative 108.8 and block was a positive 657.7. On the INX, non-block money flow was a negative 411.8 and block was a positive 3,223.6.

The block figures for 3/19/99 were extraordinary in their size. I can only conclude that these figures and the last two days of trading were heavily influenced by expiration. You may wish to be cautious with any conclusions about the last two days of trading.

However, I must admit a long trade at 9:45 on 3/18/99 with a close at 9:45 on 3/19/99 was pleasant.
