Loral Space and Communications [LOR] appointed Mac Jeffery as its new senior director, public relations. Jeffery joins Loral
after 17 years with IBM Corp. [IBM], where he spent the last seven years as Tokyo-based director of public relations for
IBM Asia Pacific.

Prior to his career with IBM, he was employed by Hill + Knowlton as account representative in Hong Kong, and before that
by Pepsi-Cola Co. [PEP] as assistant manager of marketing programs. (Jeanette Clonan, Loral, 212/338-5658.)

Shirts and other things . . .

Did you see yesterday's press release from Loral that they have hired a new Director of Public Relations ? Maybe we will start to see a much needed change in Loral's attitude towards publicity, and a shift away from their past secretiveness and paranoia. Unfortunately, this new guy will still be reporting to Ms. Clonan, so how much he will be able to contribute remains to be seen.
Promotional merchandise is a good idea for any company. I bought a cap with a Teledesic logo on it over a year ago, and Teledesic is still a pie in the sky business.
Everything is going right this year for Loral, but nobody is paying any attention.
