FINLAND AWARDS 3G LICENSES: While the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) sweats out the details on launching a global third-generation (3G) wireless standard, Finland's Ministry of Transport and Communications yesterday awarded 3G licenses to Sonera Oyj, the country's largest telecom company, Radiolinja Oy, a unit of No. 2 operator Helsingin Puhelin Oyj, Sweden's Telia AB and to Kolmegee Oy, a group formed by regional Finnish operators. An 11-day ITU meeting in Brazil to come up with an air interface standard (CT, 3/8) ends today.
