Dell Latitude Notebook PC Survives Torture Test for a Record Fifth Time; Dell Is the First and Only Notebook PC Vendor To Reach This Durability Milestone

March 19, 1999 08:02 AM
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation DELL , the world's leading direct computer systems company, today said that its Dell Latitude(R) notebook PC is the first -- and only -- five-time survivor of PC/Computing magazine's annual notebook torture test. The Dell Latitude notebook has survived this test every year since Dell started entering in 1995.

"We've been designing solid, dependable notebooks since we entered the market because that's what customers demand," said Tim Peters, general manager, Dell Latitude notebook business. "Industry leading durability can help our customers maximize their return on investment and lower certain maintenance costs associated with the total cost of ownership."

PC/Computing's seventh annual notebook torture test rounded up 22 notebook PCs and subjected them to extreme durability measures. These measures include: baking the PCs for two hours at 180 degrees Fahrenheit; freezing them for another two hours; a 29-inch drop; and two liquid splashes, one with coffee and one with soda. After each test, if the machine still boots up and can retrieve data, it is considered a survivor.

For this year's competition, Dell entered its Latitude CPi D300XT. Complete Dell Latitude product information is available at dell.com.
