Michael, as a lawyer, I am quite negative about lawyers. But the knee-jerk stuff generally misses the point of why the legal system, and many of those who make their livings off it, is the problem. Also, don't kid yourself if you think government lawyers have a monopoly on truth and justice. They are as much of the problem, if not more, than private lawyers. There's plenty wrong with the system, but not what most laypersons think.

There are times when a shareholder derivative action is a good thing, times when its not. If there was no such animal, then people would be pissing and moaning about the terrible corporations taking advantage of shareholders.

Bottom line is always the same: When you need a lawyer, your lawyer is the good guy and everyone else sucks. If people weren't so litigious, then "blood-sucking" lawyers wouldn't have anything to do all day long. Try to keep some perspective.
