<< I stated hat a stock's price had, "at any given moment", nothing to do with the underlying company or its earnings. We see that evidence all around us. >>
"nothing", did you say NOTHING????NOTHING???
<<We can also safely conclude that a different dynamic from that of the company and its earnings, drives the stock's valuation. Therefore, the two are probably unrelated, in the short run (less than 5 yrs.)>>
Following your "safe" logic, neither earnings nor pre-announcements would have ANY impact on share price- well not for at least five years.
This is the reason we have a thread for fundamentals and another which has been taken over by people wishing to make and believe in this kind of fuzzy logic. -Z

William,
May I suggest the following: dju.wsj.com

They offer an interesting course in Fundamental analysis of common stock. Here's a quiz: dju.wsj.com

BTW, I have been playing this game for 11 years and consider myself a fundamental, long term investor. My return has been well above market for 8 of 11 years. Still, I am taking the course because I know there is always something to learn.

As an aside, "Distance Learning" is an interesting and perhaps investable trend.
