Vin,

I think there is a big need to access the Internet over a cell phone. I travel frequently and was searching for this capability just a few weeks ago. Maybe I don't understand what General Magic has to offer to this segment of the market, but I think a lot of travelers would find significant value in being able to access the Internet over a cell phone. Everybody isn't sitting in front of a desktop computer all day. Mobility is becoming more important with each passing day and consumers are demanding more and more mobility as suppliers bring the technology to market.

VinWood, here's the deal.

The point is not to access the internet by simply having
web pages read to you. I agree, that's pointless. No, the
idea is to have condensed high-value information delivered to
you by the internet, via internet sources.

For example, imagine any airline schedule database
available through the internet. Sure, they've got a website,
but behind that is the database. Portico can reach directly
into that database - via the internet - and then deliver a
particular flight to you. Q: "What are the cheapest airlines
flying from SFO to YBR tomorrow? Portico: "Checking ... here
are two good ones, Flight 832 from Alaska Air ..." etc.

So Portico doesn't read off the website, she reaches into
the underlying database via the internet and returns the
information to you via voice.

This is *exactly* what the Wireless Knowledge deal is about,
except, in that case, Portico will reach into corporate
intranet databases to deliver corporate information to the user.

This is also what Unwired Planet does. Except, here, they
deliver the information via little screens on your phone.

Hope this is clearer.
