It seems that anywhere you combine too many people, too much prosperity, and too much hubris that you will get the ruling class making rules that will try to throttle the masses. Some of this might be good to limit unsustainable consumption but it would be well for us to not let them trample individual freedoms to death. The problem is where to draw a line when they go away drip by drip - it's almost impossible. You wake up one morning and it's all gone.
