One of the advantages of using a full service brokerage for long term investments are the many services which are built into the commissions charged per transaction, and which I believe are not used sufficiently by the customers of these full service houses. I routinely ask brokerages for information available on Bloomberg... There may well be other sources--Bloomberg's one, obviously, but generally speaking only professionals have it--but you'd probably do best with SEC filings.
