If you knew John personally, I think you would find that his comments were taken as one competitor talking about another.

I don't think LU paid too much, but if YOU could swing the markets on options day, would YOU? Maybe he shorted ASND and is trying to cover.

Don't worry about CSCO's internal technology. They are in the process of replacing 12,000 phones with their new IP phones. If it doesn't work, you won't be able to call the person in the cube next to you - Much less 'the press' to tell them what YOU think about your competitors!

djane,

I'll try to stick the issue at hand...

I tend to agree with you that
Chambers is just blowing smoke and his fire directed at LU/ASND is his highest form of
praise for CSCO's first real competitor.

Well if this is the case then why are we all taking about this?

Oh gee, I can't help myself....

It is generally accepted that CSCO has never
been respected for its technical accomplishments. The "hollow" comment is a direct
quote from an unnamed CSCO engineer.

Generally accepted???? Really?? Didn't know that. Know what? I bet you can find engineers at any company that have negative things to say about their employers. This doesn't make their comments right or wrong....it's just their opinion. I'm sure there are many good engineers at Cisco that feel completely different.

Now, let's get on with investing and stop bickering about he said/she said or what Chambers said or implied or..whatever....

you miss the point of csco's overpriced stock acquisitions. yes they pay too much, but what overvalued company doesn't. the point is that due to their high pe, overpriced to the selling shareholders is still cheap, and becomes accreative.

why does csco buy all of these startups, and large competitors? it is for the employees. yes, it is a cheap way of hiring talent. they then tie them to csco with options. oh such sweet bondage, never so sweet as big bucks.

does lu do this, they had better if they want to compete. as a direct stockholder of both, i recognize that the ride has to end some day, but with my basis, why sell?

peter

ps - i used to own asnd, but stupidly managed to lose money twice and threw in the towel. oh what a mistake, not a big of a gain as csco or lu but it could have been a really nice proft.
