It would be nice if they publicized outages, but I don't think the TSE would be in a hurry to do that for the obvious embarrassment. This is a scary problem though. I'm not sure if quote providers can pick up a heartbeat on the feed which would trigger an alarm if the data stops flowing.

Re:Notification of Feed Problems.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. It would make sense to have a messaging area in the Ticker to inform our users of unexpected system problems.

The TSE outage today was noticed by our system manager and posted to the status page. It lasted about 20 minutes starting at 9:27am PST.

What we have noticed, is as the Ticker applet becomes more useful, more and more people are developing a Ticker-centric view of our web site. We have responded to this by continuing to add features to Ticker such as Charts and Stock Scanning. We will continue to listen to suggestions in this area.

To further improve reliability, our next version of the Ticker will be able to switch between CSW data servers if it encounters problems with the originating server.

Thanks,
Gerry Rempel
