OT: NECAR, hydrogen storage

I had always heard that the metal hydride route was the safest
storage. Is the problem that capacity is insufficient
when stored this way?

BTW, it should be no surprise to John
that hydrogen packs excellent wallop for it's weight,
given it's use in rocket boosters...

So is the battery in your car dangerous if you light a match and stick your nose close, for it too produces hydrogen!

Let us be serious here, are we overplaying the danger of the evil hydrogen a bit?
