djane, I can't take it... that article was a positive article for the industry as a whole. Chambers was prodding the brits to build out infrastructure to solve the educational requirements of their children. This is good for all networkers. Now, there were two paragraphs in that article that you seem to have locked in on... let me reprint hereBoth deals were regarded by analysts as necessary for Lucent and Nortel to keep up with Cisco. However, many have questioned the financial logic of the deals, especially the enormous price paid for Ascend. Siemens, the German electronics group, recently described the deal as "throwing away shareholders' money". Mr Chambers takes a similarly negative view. He said that most recent deals have been belated, overpriced, and are likely to fail. "Shareholders will look back and say, not only did the acquisition not work, but the price paid for it, in hindsight, was extremely high," he said. "The acquisition prices were probably 50 to 100 per cent higher than what we would have paid." Let me see. Did you post on the Siemens thread re: "throwing away money". No, you did not. You posted that Chambers is bashing the LU/ASND merger. Seems to me he didn't mention anyone in his comments ... he merely stated that some of the most recent deals have been late, overpriced, and likely to fail. He said that these purchases were higher than he would have paid. You seem to feel that he's talking about ASND/LU. Well, maybe he's talking about ALA/XYLN or AOL/NSCP... And even if he is implying LU/ASND..how do you consider a statement like this bashing. Sheesh.. this is getting old. Get on with it. You're making a mountain out of mole hill...and yes, losing credibility in the process. Let it go. OG
