Nice synopsis, Drake. I had planned on defending the merits of Datek after I read Dan's post. Dan, please keep in mind that one gets what one pays for. For $10, we're getting a very decent deal from Datek as is. For the most part, they have their acts together in areas that matter the most - execution speed, reliability and a running total on account balance.
