Just in from WSJ Interactive:

"Technology shares surged out of the gate Friday but the sector was hammered in afternoon trading after word circulated through the market that Morgan Stanley Dean Witter lowered its 12-month share price target on IBM to 195 from 210. Big Blue's shares tumbled 9 1/16, or 5.1%, to 168 9/16, while fellow Dow component Hewlett-Packard lost 3 1/8 to 70 7/8. The Morgan Stanley high-technology index sank 24.93 to 983.62.

"Once the market looked like it was going to fail people started to get spooked and we began receiving indications to sell going into the close," said Michael Lyons, a senior trader at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, who said massive sell orders for IBM stock hit the trading desk as the session was wrapping up."
