J.D. Edwards Software Helps Build the World's Largest Construction Projects
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--
PCL Construction Implements J.D. Edwards Supply Chain
Solution on Time and on Budget to Manage Change and Assets
Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards and Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) today announced that PCL, the largest construction firm in Canada, and one of the largest in the United States, has selected J.D. Edwards AIMx to manage constant change and resources required to complete projects such as the STAPLES Center Project and the Science Museum of Minnesota. AIMx (Asset Investment Management and Execution), is a supply chain management model for the service industries that provides an information backbone for managing processes and data.
Challenged to build stronger lines of communication, manage multiple resources from remote locations, and improve speed-to-market, PCL requires tools that closely link changing business strategies with versatile information technology. Recognizing J.D. Edwards' leadership in enterprise software, PCL is using J.D. Edwards' enterprise solution to streamline its supply chain and achieve its business objectives. AIMx enables construction companies to rapidly respond to market pressures and different geographic legislative requirements common within the construction industry.
Edmonton, Alberta-based PCL sees this robust computing initiative as the key to meeting future business objectives. "In the construction business, change is what we do all the time," said Paul Wiens, vice president of information systems at PCL. "Therefore the ability to adapt our business models and processes quickly and easily with minimal cost and disruption is critical to our success. The J.D. Edwards system provides unmatched flexibility and helps us move information quickly and efficiently."
For the recently completed $350 million STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, which will be home to the L.A. Kings, Lakers and Clippers and which will be the location of the 1999 Democratic Party Convention, PCL used project cost tracking to monitor costs and better forecast the impact of changes to the original budget. While working to maximize every dollar spent on this facility, which was performed under a guaranteed maximum cost contract, the primary goal was to finish on schedule.
"J.D. Edwards project cost tracking was used for forecasting and change control. We were able to make changes in the project as the customer made changes, this helped us provide better customer service and also finish the project on time and on budget," said Wiens.
The Science Museum of Minnesota, a $61.5 million contract PCL is currently building, requires PCL to work with a diverse workforce to fulfill the city of St. Paul's revised workforce participation goals of mixing skilled and unskilled minorities.
"It is critical to our success that we be able to complete projects on time and on budget and also accommodate unique legislative requirements in different geographic regions. Therefore our IT solution must allow us to match our business goals with the needs of our existing and potential clients," said Wiens.
J.D. Edwards' supply chain solution for construction automates the processes by which clients receive services and the flow of the resources needed to provide the services by offering Internet-enabled applications and an integrated workflow engine. The integrated solution enables organizations to better manage their assets, including employees, facilities and customers and pass information efficiently throughout the construction supply chain.
