J.D. Edwards Software Helps Build the World's Largest Construction Projects

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--

PCL Construction Implements J.D. Edwards Supply Chain

Solution on Time and on Budget to Manage Change and Assets

Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards and Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) today announced that PCL, the largest construction firm in Canada, and one of the largest in the United States, has selected J.D. Edwards AIMx to manage constant change and resources required to complete projects such as the STAPLES Center Project and the Science Museum of Minnesota. AIMx (Asset Investment Management and Execution), is a supply chain management model for the service industries that provides an information backbone for managing processes and data.

Challenged to build stronger lines of communication, manage multiple resources from remote locations, and improve speed-to-market, PCL requires tools that closely link changing business strategies with versatile information technology. Recognizing J.D. Edwards' leadership in enterprise software, PCL is using J.D. Edwards' enterprise solution to streamline its supply chain and achieve its business objectives. AIMx enables construction companies to rapidly respond to market pressures and different geographic legislative requirements common within the construction industry.

Edmonton, Alberta-based PCL sees this robust computing initiative as the key to meeting future business objectives. "In the construction business, change is what we do all the time," said Paul Wiens, vice president of information systems at PCL. "Therefore the ability to adapt our business models and processes quickly and easily with minimal cost and disruption is critical to our success. The J.D. Edwards system provides unmatched flexibility and helps us move information quickly and efficiently."

For the recently completed $350 million STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, which will be home to the L.A. Kings, Lakers and Clippers and which will be the location of the 1999 Democratic Party Convention, PCL used project cost tracking to monitor costs and better forecast the impact of changes to the original budget. While working to maximize every dollar spent on this facility, which was performed under a guaranteed maximum cost contract, the primary goal was to finish on schedule.

"J.D. Edwards project cost tracking was used for forecasting and change control. We were able to make changes in the project as the customer made changes, this helped us provide better customer service and also finish the project on time and on budget," said Wiens.

The Science Museum of Minnesota, a $61.5 million contract PCL is currently building, requires PCL to work with a diverse workforce to fulfill the city of St. Paul's revised workforce participation goals of mixing skilled and unskilled minorities.

"It is critical to our success that we be able to complete projects on time and on budget and also accommodate unique legislative requirements in different geographic regions. Therefore our IT solution must allow us to match our business goals with the needs of our existing and potential clients," said Wiens.

J.D. Edwards' supply chain solution for construction automates the processes by which clients receive services and the flow of the resources needed to provide the services by offering Internet-enabled applications and an integrated workflow engine. The integrated solution enables organizations to better manage their assets, including employees, facilities and customers and pass information efficiently throughout the construction supply chain.

Miller SQA Selects J.D. Edwards' OneWorld to Help Take Its Supply Chain to the Next Level

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--

Leading Office Furniture Provider to Leverage OneWorld's

Flexibility to Quickly Put Ideas into Action

Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) today announced that Miller SQA, a division of the multi-billion dollar office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc. (NYSE:HMI), has selected J.D. Edwards' OneWorld(tm) to further increase its level of customer service and continue to provide "simple, quick, affordable" office furniture.

Miller SQA will leverage J.D. Edwards' Idea to Action(tm) solution, including OneWorld's increased functionality in the area of supply chain execution, allowing the company to respond to competitive pressures, new business processes or changing customer demands, while still remaining in control of its supply chain.

Miller SQA will look to the strong relationship between J.D. Edwards and SynQuest to help take the company to the next level of supply chain excellence. The J.D. Edwards SCOREx supply chain solution will allow Miller SQA to speed and ease integration with the company's existing SynQuest manufacturing management software, as well as develop new supply chain processes quickly while still operating effectively in a just-in-time order assembly environment.

"The J.D. Edwards/SynQuest combo is a solid foundation on which we can take speed and reliability to new levels and further increase our lead as the undisputed leader in reliable, fast and convenient office systems," said Doug Bonzelaar, application development manager at Miller SQA. "Our main challenge is to push on without a blueprint. Nobody has gone where we are headed. We need an integrated ERP and supply chain execution solution that can adapt as fast as we can."

J.D. Edwards' SCOREx is designed to integrate and extend a company's business life cycle and execute personalized supply chains for individual customers. Because J.D. Edwards' Idea to Action solution is enabled by ActivEra(tm), companies like Miller SQA, are able to quickly and easily adapt their supply chain processes in order to meet unique and changing customer demands in a just-in-time order assembly environment.

"ActivEra's portal and activators further extends the capabilities of J.D. Edwards SCOREx, allowing Miller SQA to continue to improve upon its supply chain and its on-time delivery rate to customers--allowing them a substantial advantage in a very competitive marketplace," said Michael Schmitt, senior vice president at J.D. Edwards. "The flexibility inherent to the J.D. Edwards SCOREx solution and OneWorld allows for real-time, on-the-fly changes."

Miller SQA will implement OneWorld manufacturing, logistics/distribution and financials suites on the HP 9000 with an Oracle database. The company expects to complete the implementation of its new streamlined supply chain solution within 12 months.
