>>>One unfortunate thing is that he never completed his mandate to downsize the Federal Govt.

Reagan was wounded and nearly killed from day one...he never had ANY Congressional support, but rather it was his TV talks to the American Folks with those stupid charts and graphs...and that pink makeup he always wore that gave the ole boy some color...that made him so darn sincere, trustworthy and believible to the Public which gave the man all the support he needed to get this thing in motion in Congress, he had us behing hime. And it wasn't so much that you believed in him or what he was saying...But the man made you believe in yourself....always.

He knew then IMO..that if we couldn't believe in ourselves first, then we couldn't believe in anything. He was a Grandpa to us all and restored our ability to believe, when there was nothing else to believe in. He Passed us the American Dream...that he understood...or at least he passed it to me.

The 70's were a bitch to grow up in in Michigan...Gas shortage, economy based on Autos and getting tore up by the Japanise fuel efficient cars. Most of my friends spent the time between graduation from High School and the War till 1981 on a Drunken Binge with Unemployement Money. You couldn't plan for the future, because there was none...there wasn't a Job to be had...we were lucky then to have a job for a month in a row. That's why the Dow as at 700.
