I think those IGM news guys are a little wacky. It sounds like they just got wind of the original press release and turned it into news. James Morgan would be doing cartwheels on CNBC if this $700mm 300mm project was really occurring. So far, the only substantive news concerning 300mm has been from the Siemens/Motorola joint venture which recently produced its first chips. SBN has reported Intel asked for its Canon 300mm stepper back from Sematech. SBN also reported this recently:

I'm guesstimating their will be eight pilot lines in operation by the end of 2000, with IBM included, but a $700M fab dedicated to 300mm seems a little far fetched at this point in time.
