Peter:

I want to thank you for the URLs; they are appreciated.

I've ordered Dawkins' "Virus of The Mind" as a way to get my feet wet...although, from the little I've read, I'm not thrilled with the direction he's taken (Well, maybe I am a tad presumptuous at times. <g>).

But in the first sentence of the quote in your post he said "- a replicator akin to the gene that would be at the center of the evolution of organisms." (boldface mine)

Whereas I prefer the Brodie approach, "It's that Von Newmann-esque duality that makes replicators so interesting and makes evolution possible." At least I think it was Brodie - I'm going from my own imperfect memory.

At any rate, whether the ensuing books I read will be by Dawkins, Brodie, Plotkin, or whoever, I'm sure they'll be thought provoking.

Thanks, Merritt
