>But the regs were written so that... I'm not making this up... if a person with a disability that made
masturbation impossible requested assistance, the nurses were expected to provide it.<

I can see how the job of Head Nurse suddenly became less desirable.

Elsa, I have a younger brother who is mildly retarded because of a brain injury he suffered at six months old, when he rolled off of the couch onto an oilcan that jabbed into his brain alongside of his eye. His right arm and leg are paralyzed. In addition he has a distorted face from paralysis. He was born normal.

Despite all of our giving and fawning over those with disabilities at telethons, they know that in fact they are rejected in real life. They tend to hang around together. A few years ago the State of Wisconsin decided to treat my brother and a bunch of his handicapped buddies to a day on the town in Madison. They could have the driver of the handicab take them anywhere they wanted, the museum, the Capitol building, the parks, whatever, and the state would pick up the tab. They visited every titty bar in town. The state didn't think it was funny. I thought it was hilarious. They finally got to do something that they wanted to do, not what somebody else thought they should do. How horrible that they wanted to do something that had to do with sex!

Isn't it bad enough that some of these people got dealt a bad hand with their disabilities? Do we have to compound their hardship by denying them sexual pleasure? Should it be forbidden for my brother to visit a willing prostitute? It is highly unlikely that he will ever have a mate. It is something that isn't even discussed. So far his only sexual partner is his left hand.

I agree with miss penni that it isn't an easy decision to have them sterilized. In my brothers case I don't think that he would be capable of raising a child. He is still living with my mother at 52.

Del

You have had to cope with more than your fair share of disappointment. Have you learned of ways of dealing with the disappointments that helps you get by? Some people cope better than others with setbacks. We all have disappointments and I am curious.

Thanks
