Robert,

The number of suits being filed by many different firms is truly meaningless. This is very typical. In the end, the numerous suits are almost always consolidated into one complaint and one settlement is reached. Also, insurance usually pays for the bulk of the settlement. The biggest drain on resources will come from the distractions the litigation will have on management and the company. This management team already has their hands full with day to day operations. They really don't need to be worrying about non-marketing, non-technical issues.

Personally, I am against the vast majority of shareholder lawsuits. Most of them are brought on by disgruntled investors who made bad investment decisions and want to blame it on someone else. In cases were the books are cooked or management has been fraudulent, I think shareholders have a legitimate case. In most cases, however, suits are brought on because a company simply didn't execute up to expectations. I don't think AMD mislead investors in Q4 or Q1 anymore than they have for the past 12 quarters.

Bob Re: Securities.stanford.. Thanks for the site! They cover the kinds of stocks I like to invest in - a back door to my style!

Re: (from fred) <Most of them are brought on by disgruntled investors who made bad investment decisions and want to blame it on someone else.> Fred, I would say that most of them are brought by lawyers looking for disgruntled investors who made bad investment decisions - and who are looking to their clients for profit!(Only by signing up #s of clients can a firm be ceritfied, then get time paid.) It is a form of advertising of the worst case!
