Sony Cable Modem Receives @Home Network Level II Approval

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--Sony
Electronics today announced that its CMR-1000 cable modem has achieved
Level II approval by @Home Network. This endorsement assures the
CMR-1000 cable modem's full functionality and operation in cable
networks that provide the @Home Network service.
"Today's announcement validates the CMR-1000's reliability and
functionality in a highly complex network environment," said Dirk
Peters, general manager of value added products for Sony Electronics'
Component Company. "We're extremely pleased to meet the challenge of
delivering innovative solutions for high speed Internet access."
Sony is also submitting the CMR-1000 to CableLabs for DOCSIS
certification to ensure interoperability with current and future
products from a variety of vendors.
The new cable modem includes the Cisco NetWorks(tm) software from
Cisco Systems, Inc. This software assures consumers that the CMR-1000
cable modem will operate on Internet Protocol (IP) based networks and
take advantage of future generations of enhanced network services.
Modems are currently undergoing field testing and are available
for evaluation by cable companies. The CMR-1000 will initially be sold
to cable companies. Sony also plans to expand sales to the retail
channel as cable Internet services expand throughout the U.S.

I often walk past the Sony electronics building, and their employee parking lot is routinely packed after hours and on the week-ends. At the very least, they have a lot of work they are trying to get out the door.
