Gentlemen,

I have been following your discussion regarding the Panama Canal. I would like to point out that the first article mentions was written before the testimony before the Senate and only speculated on what was going to be reported:

WASHINGTON -- The Panama Canal will not admit ships next Dec. 31 because its traffic-management systems may fail due to the Year 2000 computer glitch, a Senate committee will be told today.

After the testimony, the following was reported:

Officials: Panama Canal safe from computer bug

BY TIM SANSBURY
JOURNAL OF COMMERCE STAFF

WASHINGTON -- Panama Canal Commission officials told House lawmakers this week that the millennium computer bug won't disrupt canal service on New Year's Eve and that no toll increases will come with the transition to Panamanian control at noon that day.

I hope this helps to clarify this issue.
