<<I do think we have a plausible scenario for a higher security posture towards the end of the year and hopefully we won't have some of the more reactionary anti-government "maliciousas(sic)" from stirring up chaos.>>

Did I miss something? What form is this going to take? Im afraid Im falling behind in my news gathering ;)

I totally agree with you on Y2K. The media in their run for a story may just have produced hysteria from people who are less than knowledgable about computers. It doesnt help when religious "leaders" are preaching from the pulpit that Y2K is the beginning of the big End. Much of such panic and nuttiness is caused by things like that, a little disinformation here, a little spinning there, and the "head for the hills" and conspiracy mentality go rabid. Witness the urban war games being conducted across the country. A month ago tall tales of Special Forces invading a small Texan town using live ammo swirled through the Usenet. Now I live in Houston, Texas, and Texans being what they are, believe me such an occurance would be plastered all over the front pages and people would be breaking out the rifles. Needless to say, no such thing happened. Some people's paranoia is more disturbing than any of their theories.
