<<The percentage of VARs citing Dell desktops, notebooks and servers as best-sellers continues to climb and now stands well above year-earlier levels....

"I'm seeing a lot more Dell machines in places-including Fortune 500 companies-where I would expect to find Compaq [Computer Corp.] or [Hewlett-Packard Co.] machines," said Robert Salfi, a consultant and principal at R. Salfi Associates, Summit, N.J. "A fundamental reason behind the shift is Dell's competitive pricing."

Dell has been chipping away at Compaq's lead among major vendors in the small- and midsize-company desktop market since last summer, according to the CRN survey data. Results from last month show the two companies neck-and-neck for the top spot.>>

Fez: Thanks for posting the update....The comments above from the new Computer Reseller News article are VERY encouraging. Some of the analysts have recently written that the potential PC slowdown will only be company-specific. I agree. DELL's BTO model and virtual integration strategies are really starting to bear fruit. IMHO, Michael and his team will do EVERYTHING in their power to insure that they have a blowout quarter and put the growth concerns to bed. This is VERY important. This may be the only way that DELL can again attract some of the large momentum investors and Growth Fund managers that have temporarily gone to seek out greener pastures (in places like AOL and EMC). All indications are that DELL is firing on ALL 8 cylinders. Yet, some of "the experts" on Wall Street still like to group them in with the other boxmakers (like CPQ, HWP, and IBM). DELL has a different business model, different growth characteristics, and is leveraging the internet in a much more powerful way than any of these traditional competitors.

Oh well, thanks for the update. The ball is in DELL's court. Remember, they are running a marathon and not a 10k race. IMHO, DELL will soon emerge as THE DOMINANT provider of PCs and enterprise products. They will prove that they can compete with anyone on price, performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Best Regards,

Scott

RE:DELL-Taking over top spots/catagories etc.-it's writtenin the wind -the only problem is the media which cannot seem to comprehend that DELL is wiping out eveybody in the sphere of PC-dom and we DELL heads have to endure the prop/wash from the continual bad earning reports of the losers.bm
