From the AOL Motley Fool board: In the current BusinessWeek there is a special report called "Enterprise -- Timely Insights for Small Business". One of the subjects they discuss concerns backing up data for the small business owner. Here is what was said: >>>> Digital Safety Net Is PC failure among your deepest fears? Loss of data was cited among the top three ''realistic fears'' by 59% of 1,200 small-business owners in a poll by Working Solo Inc., a consulting firm in New Paltz, N.Y. Antivirus and data backup software are the third and fourth most popular programs among small businesses, after word processing and spreadsheets, adds International Data Corp. A few owners eschew the most common backup methods in favor of printouts, a second computer, or compact disks. Computer Crumple Zones Most small/home offices back up data regularly. FREQUENCY DAILY...... 18% WEEKLY..... 32 MONTHLY.... 20 QUARTERLY.. 9 RARELY..... 15 NEVER...... 7 METHODS USEDHIGH-CAPACITY DISKS ...34% FLOPPY DISKS.......... 32 HARD DRIVE............ 14 TAPE.................. 12 NONE.................. 6 OTHER................. 4 <<<< GARY --------------------------------------------------------------------- Funny, I don't see CD-RW listed above in the "METHODS USED" category. What's wrong with all those silly people.....don't they realize that CD-RW is going to stop zip sales in their tracks and become the method of storing everything there is or ever was? Poor devils, between the use of HIGH CAPACITY DISKS and FLOPPY DISKS, evidently 66% are using obsolete "old technology" for backing up their most valuable data!!! They should forget about simplicity or convenience and get out there and install/use CD-RW drives so the Iomega haters can be correct in their dire predictions of Iomega's eventual demise. Silly me, I belong in the WEEKLY, HIGH CAPACITY DISK crowd....backing up my entire hard drive C and D partitions on jaz disks because CD-RW disks aren't big enough! Dave
