I just successfully downloaded and installed both Windows Media Player 6.1 and DirectX Media 6.0 Runtime. This was my third attempt. Right after I got the second one installed, there was a patch for it. Downloaded it ok also.

When I went back to the download page, under download history, it said all three were installed. But like you said, it shows that Windows Media Player isn't installed. I went to Media player and checked to see what version was installed. It was 6.1. Don't understand why it won't show up as installed.

FREE IE 5 STUFF
The shipping version of Internet Explorer 5.0 is now
available for download. The new version is smaller, more
stable and far better than version 4.x. And it blows the
socks off of anything Netscape is now offering. OK, you
already knew all that; here's what you may not have known.
Microsoft is also giving away a bunch of neat IE5 goodies
to anyone who knows where to look. The company also
launched a new site called Web Events that provides
links to streaming content.
