Another cross-platform win api is Qt which will be the interface

Linux: not an uphill battle, if you simply sit on a log.
The use of JAVA byte code in complete applications would certainly lend an advantage to the system better able to handle multiple processes. Current advantage is that performance is still enhanced
(on my 100 MHz, anyway) with the close hand-coding embedded in the microsoft user interface. If what Bill says is true and they have the fastest jit compiler in the west, irrelevant when hardware gets past a certain point, and software complexity doesn't outrace it .
