Heavy new fighting erupts in Kosovo amid threat of airstrikes

<< Ignoring NATO threats, Yugoslav forces pounded rebel positions in central Kosovo for a second straight day Sunday, setting houses ablaze as terrified ethnic Albanian civilians fled into the snowy hills.

Journalists reported seeing smoke rising from villages near the town of Srbrica as the dull thud of artillery and tank fire reverberated through the hills. Earlier the Serbian Media Center reported Kosovo Liberation Army rebels fired on a police vehicle near the town, with no casualties.

The rebel Kosova Press Agency claimed up to 15,000 civilians were on the run and that the Yugoslav army was moving more troops and equipment into the area, following up on an offensive launched as international monitors left the country Saturday. -- cont'd -- >>

From Roosevelt's 'Walk softly and carry a big stick' we have come to Slick's 'Talk loudly and maybe carry a stick' ... The longer this goes on, the more troops, arms and missiles the Serbs move into Kosovo to confront NATO aircraft ... War is terrible, but war by a committee (19?) is worse.

Patton must be turning over in his grave.
