JDN - re: " I would just buy a new printer but I have been very happy
with the quality of this one."

Well, you now have to determine the more cost effective solution - repair or replace.

Sorry about all that downtime.

By the way - if you live near a Kinko's - or some full service copier/printer place - perhaps you can do your printing there. I know Kinkos usually have PCs and Macs and printers for hourly rentals.

Last time I had an HP printer fixed they made a standard charge for each model regardless and you paid in front. My charge was $245 for a $1000 printer, but it turned out to be a company error so they gave me my money back. Good people. Same deal on a calculator, I remember.

JDN,
As ia 10 year user of HP DeskJets, I am so sorry to hear you have a problem. I have never had a single problem with the ones I own, the ones I gave to my children, the one I gave to my wife. (I think I have bought 5 and they are all still in use.)

Take the thing back to the store and get a new one!

BTW, I bought a competing brand about 18months ago. It lasted 9 months before it mysteriously quite responding.
