Susan,
I've been sudying the education stuff at clearstation and frying my poor brain. The comment about patterns was posted by me, but I had read it an interview with a successful woman trader. You are right about chart patterns resembling notation of classical music. As musicians, we become accustomed to those patterns. I have to sightread a lot and I guess it must be the fact that those patterns have imprinted themselves on my brain that helps me to be able to sightread
most classical music. And what you said about a lot of contemporary
music not having those patterns is why it's not very sitereadable, but also why its not so pleasing to the ear via the brain.

Emily, Susan and all:

Its interesting to see the discussion continuing. I've received 3 PM's from people who are studying stocks to classical music this weekend.

In fact, I'm doing Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" (in honor of the change) myself.

A stock chart is much like written music. Even the rhythm of watching time and sales has a relationship to music.

Begin with the simple concept of "What is a line?" A line is a dot that moves. This is the basis for teaching melody.

That concept leads to the concept of patterns..both visual and auditory.

And when they are superimposed--Compare CMGI to the S&P on the same chart, we have harmony. WEll, some stocks are harmonious, LOL!

Maybe the lyricist was on to something when he wrote, "The world is a circle without a beginning and nobody knows where it really ends." One thing relates to another to another.

Even rhythm, the movement of something through time and/or space that happens over and over and over.

Who says that the arts aren't basic education.....

Have a enriching weekend!
