Any suggestions?? I'm serious. I'm not baiting you. I just find this 72-hr spin govt is putting forth reprehensible. Cheryl, You and I have both have strong feelings about how the Y2K issue is being handled. During the several years both of us have followed Y2K, you have carried the torch very well on alerting many people to the vulnerabilities presented by embedded systems. I will frankly tell you that you were one the my primary sources on the issue and I have greatly appreciated you for that. But Cheryl, but now we're talking about the politics of Y2K, and how those politics are handled is not a black and white issue. What keeps our economy streaming along merrily as can be while 1/2 the world is in or heading for recession?? The psychology of confidence as presented through certain of our leaders. You know I give Alan Greenspan and Robert Rubin far more credit for this than the present administration. Presidents are always vulnerable to the whims of economic policy by the Fed chairman. So what should Alan Greenspan and the administration be telling people right now?? Should they tell them there are going to be major problems?? Should they tell them to stock 1/2 to a year of food?? There is a very fine line between getting the word out in a prudent and responsible manner as telling people that they should take steps to prepare, and coming out and telling people that the people running the gov't have no real clue how all the interconnected systems are actually going to function after Jan 1st, 2000. And then we face the problem of being burdened with being the sole remaining engine of economic growth in the world. We have to be EVEN MORE careful with what we say so that we don't exacerbate an already steady world and create a self-fulfilling prophecy of financial collapse. The way I look at it, the administration has been AWOL on Y2K. John Koskinen is a great guy and an excellent manager, but he doesn't have the force of presence or celebrity that would bring the proper attention and international weight to dealing with our other nations. I believe that Robert Rubin and Alan Greenspan have filled these roles and undercut John K. authority. So what do we do?? We spread the word via the grapevine, from family to family, church to church, and friend to friend. We encourage people to prepare and work with one another in our communities so that their is as little reason as necessary for the US gov't to intervene in out lives in an authoritarian manner. And getting p*ssed at our government leaders for not wanting to start a panic does very little. Better that we take the leadership role at the community level so that when Washington finally gets around to telling us where the problems will be, we are already prepared physically and mentally. Btw, glad to hear you're getting along fine out there. Be well. Regards, on
