Qualcomm in India>economictimes.com Tata Lucent sets up systems for basic services Our Hyderabad Bureau 26 FEBRUARY TATA Lucent Technologies Ltd (TLTL), a joint venture between Tata Industries Ltd and Lucent Technologies International Inc, has set up working systems for both wireline and wireless basic telephony services in Andhra Pradesh, said Mr Suresh Borkar, chief technical officer, TLTL. Tata Lucent had bagged a $-325 mn contract in January 1999 to supply telecommunications equipment, including five ESS-DCS, SDH and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) base stations over a three year period to Tata Teleservices Ltd, the private basic telephony services operator for Andhra Pradesh. TLTL's application of CDMA technology in Andhra Pradesh is the second in the country after a similar application for Bharati Telecom in Madhya Pradesh. With the new technology, TLTL will install four or five switches in major cities, from which remote accesses can be linked. “The CDMA technology is secure and reliable. Its capability to reach end customer faster is the driver,'' said Mr Borkar. However, it might not be possible to offer value added services through the technology at the current stage, he added. The company focuses on systems for network operators such as central office switches, network access systems, transmission systems network management systems, network wireless products such as global systems for mobile communications and CDMA technology, personal communications services wireless systems, wireless local loop solutions, and power systems for telecommunication equipments.
