Nihil,

This dilemma reminds me of an incident at my dinner table a number of years ago when an exchange student from France was staying with us. His mother came to our home and started to inquire about religious affiliation. She became demonstrably uncomfortable when she realized that her son had for two weeks been subjected to a Jewish household and started to prattle on about anti-semitism in France and how she could not understand why everyone "hated the Jews" as she put it, because they are "all so smart and very literate, and good in business you know". The more she talked the more nervous she became and it became clear that her stupid generalizing about our supposed traits and communal characteristics evidenced opinions that she held privately (if not publicly at home).

Thanks for the instructional essay on the business habits of Jews. My father the "Jewish Furrier" could not have given me a better primer. While I still consider it abhorent to use descriptive language that refers to what you call "class origins", I have a better understanding of what you were trying to say regarding the relationship of Sanders to Dell. I am happy to withdraw my comments applicable to "latent anti-semitism" since I cannot and do not know your intent.
