On my new Dell Dimension, they would let me have a TV tuner and a network card for my Roadrunner. I savvily went for the Roadrunner connection.

Typical IRQ assignments

0 --- timer
1 --- keyboard
2 --- interrupt controller
3&4 --- com ports
5 --- network card
6 --- floppy
7 --- printer
8 --- clock
9 --- VGA card(s)
10 --- sound card
13 --- numeric data processor
14 --- prime IDE (hard drive)
15 --- sec IDE (CDROM)

leaving two IRQs

=====================
Win 98 allows multiple vgas to be assigned the same IRQ. Some sound cards take up two IRQ's.

Supposedly under Win98 Plug and Pray a device like your sound card or modem (if so jumpered) will be assigned an IRQ from amongst the free pool.....but I've found many device that do not behave in this manner when jumpered for plug and pray (modems for examplethat cannot be assigned an IRQ above 7, VGA cards that insist on IRQ 10 etc.)
