John, Yes for sure we all have to learn some things the hard way in this business, but I continually see things happening in the market that really mystify me. Sometimes I see something happening that looks like sheer folly and I wonder if I'm missing something. An example, last week there was trading in deep out of the money warrants (on a low volatility stock) which where going to expire the NEXT day. I couldn't help but ask myself why does someone out there just want to throw their money away.

Your example in XXXX was a good one. A lot of emphasis is put on so called 'stock picking', but one thing I've learned over the years is sound risk management is just as or more important than stock picking. This is a common theme if you listen to successful traders. Bottom line, cut your losses and take out your original investment as soon as you can. It's much better to play with the house's money than your own.
