NW: I'll pour a little beer in the ferns every now and then.

You reminded me of my first (and last) martini. A friend of mine who deals in selling parts for and restoring old British motorcycles had a booth set up on the concourse of our local race track for some big hoo-ha that was going on. He and his wife had brought a HUGE thermos of martinis to help "pass the time." It was about 90 degrees in the shade. I had perched myself on top of a high stool. I agreed to try a martini and my friend poured about 20 oz into a huge cup. The first slug made every hair on me stand on end. The second made me shake like a wet dog. By the third, it was all over. Yeah, this is great! Want some more??? No. No. Not just yet, thanks. I was trying to be polite, but my only thought was to get rid of the rest of that martini, so when no one was looking, I kind of nonchalantly lowered my arm and poured the rest of the martini (about 2/3 of the cup) out onto the ground next to me. Unfortunately I had placed my open purse right next to the stool and ended up pouring the martini right in it.
