J.D.

Of course AMD has serious problems and I doubt there ability to be a consistent supplier to a large percentage of the market

AMD has been steadily shipping K6 parts at a rate in excess of 20 million units per year. It wasn't very many years ago that number would have exceeded Intel's shipments.

Re:"I noticed that Best Buy advertised a Toshiba laptop with a K-6-2 processor. I take note of each "defection" from the Intel camp. Is this a response to Compaq, or is it getting ready for the K-7?"

In my area, Best Buys have always been pushing AMD. I have been pushed to the AMD computers there often. The Best Buy papers here are full of AMD computers and have been for a while.

Today there is the 333 k6-2 notebook you mentioned plus
350 k6-2 compaq desktop
400 k6-2 ibm

This is along with three intel desktops and one intel notebook.

J.D. - Re: " however, if they only could put it together--how the landscape would change. "

As you wrote in your post, and as pointed out by another long-time contributor to this thread, nearly EVERY reference to AMD contains the word "IF".

Well, AMD may IF, but Intel DOES.

And that is why Intel is a winner and AMD is a loser.
