Why does MSFT not just acquire a cable company

Microsoft owns a big stake in Comcast, which is one of the major cable companies after TWX and T/TCOMA. They also have holdings in some European companies, I believe.

The problem with getting more of them is that there's a lot of competition. Comcast is already aggressive in buying up smaller companies. But so is Paul Allen's Charter. And AT&T is expected to be agressive about getting more households on its cable net (either through buyouts or agreements) once the TCI merger is complete within a few months.
