Free Office Microsoft--giving something away? It's true: Buy Microsoft Office 97 and you get a free upgrade to Office 2000 when it's released this summer. Considering Office 2000's porky price--$799 for the primo package--buying Office today is a smart investment. Plus, in Office 2000 you'll get two additional apps: FrontPage 2000 and PhotoDraw 2000.

Popularity Contest Despite the Department of Justice's efforts, Americans apparently don't fault Microsoft for its domination of the software market. A new report found that a majority of respondents (81 percent) think Microsoft is good for consumers and that almost half (44 percent) think the DOJ should spare Microsoft in its antitrust suit. Only 24 percent declared the software giant guilty.
