But ICQ is in many ways an anti-AOL (as their exec pointed out at last week's internet investment conference).

It's not something that's likely to draw many users to the main AOL services because it appeals to a more net-savvy user base along with all those teenagers. You'd search in vain on ICQ's interface for any sign of AOL's ownership. There's also nothing on any of their web sites. That's not by accident. ICQ's membership is fiercely independent. They reacted with horror to AOL's purchase, so AOL is being very careful with it. AOL -- to its credit -- seems content, for now, to let it retain its independence. Even though they can't leverage the huge user base with their accustomed methods, it is still a valuable list to have -- if for no other reason, then just to keep it from competing with AIM, a service on which they can run ads and other such stuff that would be verboten on ICQ.

she has 92 friends in AOL's AIM instant messaging circle and
30 friends in AOL's ICQ instant messaging circle, WOW! <<

Tang, I don't know what's gotten into that daughter of yours, but would you please make sure she stops slacking and gets the count to at least 1,000 by the end of the school year!

Did you mean "oscars" or options?
